The drill rods commonly used at home and abroad
07 Feb 2025
At present, the commonly used drill rod specifications at home and abroad are: H19, H22, H25, H28, H32, H35, H38, H45mm hexagonal and D32, D38, D45, D51mm round hollow steel drill rods. The drill rod length is generally 0.4~6.4m. The existing life span levels are:
(1) Small diameter (lightweight) drill rod: Taking H22x108x2200mm (7°) cone-connected drill rod as an example, in hard granite with a uniaxial compressive strength of σD≈200MPa, a leg-type pneumatic rock drill and a ∅40mm cross-shaped drill head are used to drill holes. The average life span of the first forging according to industrial statistics is: domestically, Guiyang ZK55SiMnMo "cast tube method" drill rod is representative, about 60m; overseas, Sweden Secoroc's "drilling method" (with stainless steel lining) Z708 (40SiMnCrNiMo) drill rod is representative, ≥150m;
(2) Large diameter (heavy) drill rod: Taking T45-D45x3660mm-T45 trapezoidal threaded drill rod as an example, in hard granite with a uniaxial compressive strength of σD≈200MPa, Atlas The average service life of Copco's Roc712-HC-01 open-pit drilling vehicle Cop1238ME hydraulic rock drill and ∅89-T45 ball-tooth drill head for downward drilling is about 1000m in China, represented by the "Qinglong" brand ZK18CrNi3MoV "hot-piercing-hot-rolling method" drill rod from Xianning, Hubei Province; and ≥1500m in foreign countries, represented by the similar "drilling method" drill rod from Sandvik, Sweden. How to further improve the service life of light and heavy drill rods at home and abroad is not only of great significance to the revitalization of my country's national industry and the promotion of the development of basic industries such as global mining, but also a global problem faced by the rock drilling tool science and technology community and the industry of all countries in the 21st century.
