ProDrill™ Rock Drilling Tools hot sales in South Africa's mining industry

09 Aug 2024

As we all know, South Africa's reserves and production of diamonds, gold, platinum metals, manganese, chromium, etc. are among the highest in the world. Mining is a pillar industry in South Africa and other African countries. Mining requires a large number of rock drilling tools, and basic industries such as earthwork excavation, road and bridge construction, airport construction, port construction, real estate, and hydropower stations also require drilling tools.

At present, China-Africa relations are becoming increasingly close, mainly reflected in economic cooperation and construction development. It can be expected that if Africa develops in the next 20 to 30 years like my country's reform and opening up in the past 30 years, the demand for drilling tools will also grow explosively like my country's first 30 years.

As a new era drill tool exporter, the market is overseas. If you can't go out, how can you develop the market? We should respond to the current national call, and the export direction should follow the "Belt and Road" and the national strategy of developing and building Africa, advance into Greater Africa, and develop a large market for drill tools. High-quality drill tools and excellent drill tool people are always on the road.

This time, I personally spent more than 10 days to visit the mines before, during, and after the South African Mine Exhibition. I deeply felt the South African market's love for Chinese products, the deep love of South African miners for Chinese drill tools, and the love between Chinese drill tools and South African mines. This is not an accident!

September 15th was the second day of the successful conclusion of the five-day exhibition of Electra Mining Africa 2018, the international mining exhibition in South Africa. According to the confirmed itinerary, accompanied by the mine owner Mr. Jeff, we set off from SANDTON PROTEA Hotel in Johannesburg at 8:30 and headed straight to the Letseng Mine diamond mining area. The town of Letseng is located in Lesotho, a country within a country in South Africa, passing through the four towns of Villiers, Frankfort, Bethlehem and Fouriesburg along the way.

The car drove in the endless desert, with vast land and sparse population, blue sky and white clouds, vast sky, vast wilderness, and cattle and sheep appearing in the wind blowing the grass. At about noon, we entered the Lesotho border. The exit from South Africa was very smooth. We stamped and passed the customs. When entering the Lesotho border, we encountered some troubles. It is said that as long as citizens holding South African visas enter Lesotho without a visa, they are exempt from visas. Now the border immigration office staff said that without a visa for Lesotho, they cannot enter.

After half an hour of communication and coordination, I finally got a 24-hour temporary VISA. Generally speaking, the border immigration officials are very friendly to Chinese people. I heard that there are many Chinese people in this small country of Lesotho. Entering Lesotho, surrounded by mountains, cliffs and ridges, rolling and undulating, the car circled and drove slowly on the mountain road at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters. It felt a bit like flying in the clouds. The road was like a one-way road in China. When two cars met, they carefully avoided each other. Looking down through the glass window, the cliff was so deep that I couldn't see the bottom, and my heart was chilled.

At 3 pm, we arrived at the AfriSkin Hotel, the highest hotel in Africa at an altitude of 3,010 meters. After checking in, we immediately rushed to the Letseng diamond mine. After half an hour of learning about mine safety knowledge, we finally entered the Leteng diamond mine. The mine pit was very deep and the mine was very windy and sandy. The wind was blowing and shaking people. The air was drier than Beijing. In front of us, heavy transport trucks loaded with nearly 100 tons of diamond ore whizzed past one after another, and the wheels rolled, rolling up gray dust like a tornado, blowing in our faces. There was no sunlight and no road at all.

According to regulations, visitors to the mine area are not allowed to get off the car. They can only stay in the pickup truck and listen to the mine manager's introduction of the drilling and blasting vehicles at the Letseng Diamond Mine, how many hours they work every day, how many shifts they have, and on site, the Letseng Diamond Mine D60, D65 Atlas down-the-hole drill rigs, a total of 6 units are working, 200,000 meters per month, mainly 127, 140, 165 down-the-hole drill bits, accessories 4", 6" down-the-hole impactors.

According to the investigation: SmartROC D60/D65 is a down-the-hole drill rig that can meet your various hole diameter requirements during the mining process and is an ideal choice for mines and large quarries. Drilling hole diameter: 110mm-203m, down-the-hole impactors 4inch, 5inch, 6inch, drill rod 5 meters, maximum drilling depth: 55 meters.
